Every year, La Rochelle's Atlantic Port opens its doors to the public for just one day. This year, on 11th June, visitors will be able to discover, or perhaps rediscover, an array of activities as well as meeting various professionals who work at the port on a daily basis. An unmissable event for anyone planning to be in one of our La Rochelle hotels over that weekend... make sure you put it in your diary!
The Atlantic Port Open Day kicks off at 10am on 11th June, offering activities and entertainment all day until 7pm... it is open to everyone, adults and children, local residents and visitors to La Rochelle alike. Highlights will include a sea rescue demonstration at 3pm, crane climbing demonstrations at 11.30am and 4pm as well as a nautical parade scheduled for 5pm. In addition, the 2017 Open Day will offer exclusive guided tours of the mysterious and impressive Submarine Base. Also, starting at 10.15am, visitors can join a 3-hour guided tour of France's 6th most important port, to gain a better understanding of daily life at the port, with its 6 terminals and 4475 metres of dock.
There will be lots of different activities for all ages, allowing visitors to discover the site in a fun way. For those interested in finding out more about the port, there will be different marked routes set out, taking you through key points of interest such as the Harbour Master's Office, the 'Forest Products' terminal and even the Shipbuilding and Repair Centre... and why not round off your visit by climbing to the top of the 66-metre high Eqiom tower for a bird's-eye view over the port!
