An Eco-friendly Maritime Festival

Scheduled for Saturday 22nd June, the next Fête du port de pêche de La Rochelle (La Rochelle’s fishing port festival) should once again attract several thousand visitors… offering a great opportunity to promote environmental initiatives.

Being labelled as an ‘Eco-event’, with its continued and determined approach to sustainable development, this annual festival, held at the port in the Chef-de-Baie area of the city, is one of La Rochelle’s major events. Some of its environmental initiatives include… selective waste separation, recycling of cooking oil and shells, public drinking water fountains and sale of reusable festival cups. All these actions are in line with the ‘Charter for eco-responsible events’ which was devised by the City of La Rochelle. Of course, Saturday 22nd June will also be a day of fun and festivities. On this summer day, there will be events such as a fish auction, musical performances and a visit to the scuba diving museum… for the entertainment of more than 5000 visitors who are expected for this 24th Edition. The highlight of the afternoon will be a fish and seafood banquet for lovers of sardines, mackerel, cuttlefish, oysters, mussels… all of which are caught locally. So make it a diary date if you're in town over that weekend...
